It is very clear that everyone is frustrated with the MLB lockout. The league’s refusal to negotiate, then attempting to gaslight the players by complaining that they did not accept their request for federal mediation, has done more to galvanize the Union than anything else. Needless to say, all of the players have had about enough of Rob Manfred at this point.

Count Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman amongst that group. He took to Twitter to provide a new name for the commish, referring to him as Manclown.

Stroman has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind. It makes him one of the more entertaining follows on Twitter, and one that has a knack for being loved by the fans for that very reason.

That tendency to speak his mind has been on display this offseason. Plenty of players have voiced their annoyance with Manfred in the past few weeks, but Stroman is taking it to another level. The Manclown name invokes the infamous Roger Goodell clown meme while he is outright saying that the commish is ruining the great game of baseball.

It is difficult to argue with either assertion. Manfred had inherited years of labor peace after the disastrous strike in 1994-95 and ruined it. His inane rule changes and refusal to market the players led many to wonder if he even liked the game he is in charge of.

But that is minor in comparison at this point. The players and fans are essentially unified in their disdain for Manfred, outright saying that he is ruining the game. The best chance for labor peace now might involve his stepping aside when his current contract is over. Even that might not be enough at this point based on the reactions of Stroman and others around the league.
