Los Angeles Dodgers: Mookie Betts working as a hitting coach
In theory, if one wants to be as great as possible, it makes sense to learn from the best. With the ongoing lockout, players have plenty of free time on their hands. It is also a chance for players to seek one another out for help, as Brock Holt has done with Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts.
Holt is looking to find his bat and return to form once again. He has recruited Betts in that quest, hoping his former teammate on the Red Sox can teach him how to hit once more.

There was a time when Holt was a solid option in the batter’s box. The 2015 All Star had combined a roughly league average bat with impressive defensive versatility to become a valuable part of the roster. He has literally played at every position on the diamond aside from catcher, typically providing solid defense at each position.
The problem is that his bat has not been there over the past two years. He has produced a disappointing .209/.281/.291 batting line in his 366 plate appearances, hitting just two homers and 19 doubles. His versatility is still valuable, but he needs to produce enough to justify a roster spot.
Maybe that can happen under Betts’ tutelage. Even in what was considered a disappointing season, Betts produced a .264/.367/.487 batting line in his 550 plate appearances, hitting 23 homers and 29 doubles. There are plenty of players who would be proud to have that type of production as their best year.
No one is going to expect Holt to suddenly transform into Betts 2.0. However, it is certainly worthwhile to learn from one of the best players in the game. Those sessions with Betts could help him get his swing back together and be a solid major league option once again.
