Dave Roberts is not leaving Los Angeles Dodgers any time soon
As Dave Roberts is entering the final season of his contract, it is understandable that there may be speculation as to his future. The Los Angeles Dodgers have made the postseason in each of his six years, reaching the World Series three times. However, as he has just one championship to his name, there had been some thought that the Dodgers would look to move on.
That speculation can now come to an end. The Dodgers and Roberts have both stated that another extension will get done; it is just a matter of time.
Dave Roberts not leaving Los Angeles Dodgers any time soon
It is extremely difficult to consider Roberts’ time with the Dodgers as anything other than a success. He has a 542-329 record with the franchise, winning the NL West in five of his six seasons. Roberts has guided the team to the postseason each year and won the 2020 World Series. His .622 winning percentage is the third highest in franchise history of anyone who has managed at least three games, and at 213 games over .500, he is the second most successful manager the Dodgers have ever had.
But that has not stopped some from questioning his ability. The Dodgers are expected to be in the postseason every year based on their payroll and willingness to bring in anyone who could make a difference. Yes, winning three NL pennants is nice, but to only have one championship in that time is considered a bit of a disappointment.
It is also fair to note that one of the Dodgers’ appearances in the World Series came in 2017. That is the AstroGate season, where the Astros won the championship in large part due to RubberMaid. Roberts can hardly be blamed for that defeat.
This may also be the next step to keeping Roberts with the franchise for as long as he wants to manage. He will turn 50 years old at the start of the season, and with his track record of success, there is no reason for the Dodgers to consider bringing anyone else in.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Dave Roberts are working on another extension. He will not be leaving the franchise any time soon.
