After announcing his retirement in November, Buster Posey is slated to be honored by the San Francisco Giants for his contributions to the club in a ceremony scheduled for May.
The San Francisco Giants and its fans will pay tribute to Buster Posey on May 7
Following a 2021 season where Posey returned to the backstop after opting out of the 2020 campaign, the 34-year-old catcher posted one of his best overall campaigns, slashing .304/.390/.499 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI. He also helped guide a pitching staff that posted Major League Baseball’s second-lowest ERA (3.24) as the San Francisco Giants won an MLB-high and franchise-record 107 games.
After being drafted fifth overall by the Giants in the 2008 MLB draft, Posey suited up for San Francisco for 12 seasons. During his career, Posey earned National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2010 and NL Most Valuable Player honors two years later. In both of those seasons, as well as 2014, Posey was a part of a World Series-winning team in San Francisco, helping the Giants become a dynasty in the early part of the decade.
A seven-time All-Star (including last season), Posey showed he was as good as ever as the 2021 postseason got underway. He blasted a two-run home run in the opening inning of the opening game of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers to push the Giants to a 4-0 win in Game 1.
Posey would slash .300/.300/.550 in 20 at-bats during the NLDS, which the Dodgers would win in five games.
That series would end up being the last one that Giants fans would ever see Posey suit up, but they will now have a chance to show their appreciation for one of the faces of the franchise when the St. Louis Cardinals are in town for Buster Posey Day on May 7.
The Giants are offering a ticket package to not only be a part of Posey’s big day, but also the retirement of Will Clark’s number 22 on July 30.
