As technology changes, the teams that are amongst the first to join the wave of the future have an advantage. They are established in these areas while others are attempting to catch up, giving them experience and a footing that others do not have. The Atlanta Braves are hoping that will be the case with the MetaVerse.

On Tuesday, the Braves announced that they will enter the MetaVerse, becoming the first MLB franchise to do so.

This project will allow fans to visit the ballpark and area virtually. As noted at sportsbusinessjournal.com, the Braves are hoping to build an immersive experience that will allow their fans to interact with one another with their avatars while experiencing all that the ballpark and surrounding area have to offer.

The Braves virtual ballpark will be more than a place to hang out. They are also planning to provide exclusive content, have meet-and-greets with players and executives, as well as games and prizes. One has to imagine that, at some point, there will be virtual stores as part of the experience as well, allowing Braves fans to find unique items.

Chances are, the Braves will not be the only franchise to take this step. Others are likely to follow, especially if this venture is a success. However, the Braves will have a leg up on the competition, as they will already have everything ready to go.

Likewise, the Braves could also have an additional revenue source. Not only could they have their own shops in the MetaVerse, but they may be able to sell different sponsorship as well. There is a chance to improve the bottom line, and it is one that the Braves are going to take.
