Cory Snyder, who played over the course of nine seasons for five different Major League Baseball franchises, has been named as the manager and hitting coach of the Northern Colorado Owlz. The team will begin play in the Pioneer League in 2022.

With his new position as the manager of the Northern Colorado Owlz, Cory Snyder brings plenty of baseball experience

Snyder has been active in baseball since playing in his last MLB game on August 10, 1994. His stops have included working in the Seattle Mariners organization as the hitting coach for the Double-A Jackson Generals from 2011 through 2013, and the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers for the two seasons following that.

He has also spent time managing in the Mexican League and Chinese Professional Baseball League before returning to the United States to work in baseball again, taking a role in the front office of the Orem (Utah) Owlz in 2019. The Owlz did not play in 2020 and 2021, moving to a new facility in Windsor, Colo., and becoming the Northern Colorado Owlz.

Drafted fourth overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 1984 MLB draft, Snyder came in fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 1986 after slashing .272/.299/.500 and hitting 24 home runs. It would be the first of five seasons he would spend with Cleveland, hitting 83 homers in his first three campaigns with the franchise.

Snyder would also play for the Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers in his career. He was also a part of the star-studded 1984 United States Olympic baseball team that competed in what was then a demonstration sport at the Games.

Snyder’s announcement as Northern Colorado’s manager comes just days after the Billings Mustangs, another member of the Pioneer League, unveiled former MLB manager Jim Riggleman as their new skipper.
