Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones was on “92.9 The Game” in Atlanta on Tuesday and he shed some light on the Freddie Freeman negotiations.

Jones said that Freddie Freeman is “probably a little frustrated” with the timing of things and “probably a little frustrated” with some of the offers that he has had from the Braves thus far.

Chipper Jones thinks that Freddie Freeman is not happy with the Atlanta Braves

Everyone in the baseball world thought that it would be a foregone conclusion that the Atlanta Braves would re-sign first baseman Freddie Freeman, especially after they won the 2021 World Series.

But Freeman, who won the 2020 NL MVP award, has not received the offer that he wants from the Braves. Braves legend and Hall of Famer Chipper Jones, who is a hitting consultant for the Braves at the MLB level, said that he thinks that Freeman will definitely entertain offers from other teams since the Braves and Freeman haven’t come to an agreement.

“The Braves have made some offers, didn’t make him happy,” Jones said. “He’s being courted by some of the prettiest girls on the block right now, he’s gonna listen to them. I hope that he thinks about his legacy here in Atlanta and they can come to some sort of an agreement to bring him back …”

Jones also said that he hasn’t talked to Freeman in some time due to the lockout but Jones believes that Freeman wasn’t happy about not getting extended last year.

“I haven’t talked to Freddie in quite some time, but I’m sure he’s probably a little frustrated this wasn’t done in Spring Training last year,” Jones said. “But the fact of the matter is we didn’t have any fans in the stands. We’ve got owners that didn’t know where revenue was going to be at the end of the year and maybe held out a little bit.

“The bottom line is, Freddie I believe before it’s all said and done will be playing where he wants to play. I know he’s a West Coast guy. I know he has a home here in Atlanta. But Freddie, if he wants to play for the Atlanta Braves, will be playing for the Atlanta Braves. I’ll leave it at that.”

If the Braves don’t re-sign Freeman, it will be a huge blow to the team heading into 2022 but there will be a slew of teams that will be interested in having one of the best players in baseball on their team for years to come.
