Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer arrives at MLBPA camp
Trevor Bauer’s status for the 2022 season is still relatively uncertain. While the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher is not going to face legal trouble over sexual assault allegations, he could still face discipline from MLB for violating their domestic abuse policy.
Those questions are not stopping Bauer from getting ready for the 2022 season. He arrived at the MLBPA camp on Tuesday, interacting with fans but refusing to do interviews. According to Bob Nightengale, Bauer had considered talking to the media, but decided against it since they do not “have [his] best interests at heart.”
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer getting ready for 2022 season
It makes sense that Bauer would be at the camp. He has not pitched since June 28, and with the uncertainty of spring training on top of his own status, he would want to get as much time in as possible. Throwing bullpens and keeping his arm loose is perfectly fine, but there is a difference when it comes to facing batters and throwing those side sessions.
The Dodgers could certainly use Bauer to be back and at the top of his game. Their rotation has several question marks behind Julio Urias and Walker Beuhler. His return would give Los Angeles a formidable trio atop their rotation.
He was close to living up to his contract prior to being placed on administrative leave. Bauer was yet another ace in the Dodgers’ rotation, posting a 2.59 ERA and a 1.003 WHiP over his 107.2 innings. He struck out 137 batters with just 37 walks, although he did allow a surprising 19 homers in that time.
But he still needs to return to the mound and show that he can be that pitcher going forward. Yes, he was dominant last year, but that was a long time ago. That time off can make a major difference in terms of what Bauer can produce in 2022.
Trevor Bauer has arrived at the MLBPA camp. The Los Angeles Dodgers have to hope that he can get ready and replicate his performance for 2022.
