New York Yankees: Miguel Andujar assaulted and robbed on his farm
One could forgive Miguel Andujar for feeling safe at home. After all, the New York Yankees third baseman was simply minding his own business on his farm during the lockout, waiting for the season to begin.
Unfortunately, trouble found Andujar. According to reports (link in Spanish), Andujar was robbed at gunpoint on his farm on Wednesday. Fortunately, he was unharmed, and even more amazingly, he is expected to arrive in Tampa on Saturday for spring training.

Reports differ as to whether or not Andujar was assaulted by two or three gunmen. However, it is clear that his home was robbed, and that he was assaulted by the robbers for his gold chain, which is valued at approximately $7000.
The fact that he is planning on being in spring training on Saturday after that ordeal is amazing in its own right. At the same time, it is clearly a safer environment in Tampa. Even if he is not immediately on the diamond, just being out of that area could be enough.
As it is, this could be a pivotal year for Andujar. He had once appeared to be a cornerstone for the Yankees to build around after he finished second in the 2018 AL Rookie of the Year balloting. However, injuries and his struggles at the plate changed that narrative. He has produced a disappointing .228/.257/.331 batting line in his 276 plate appearances over the past three years, hitting seven homers and four doubles.
It is difficult to see a path forward for Andujar with the Yankees. He could end up with a bench role given his ability to play either corner infield spot and left. However, he may be more valuable as a possible trade chip for a team willing to take a gamble on a player who once seemed to have a promising future ahead of himself.
