High praise for Miami Marlins pitcher Eury Perez
The Miami Marlins are no strangers to having some of the top pitching prospects in the game. Even before their current run of pitchers, the likes of Josh Beckett, A.J. Burnett, and Jose Fernandez had come through their system. Their success over the years has typically come from their ability to generate pitcher after pitcher.
For all of their prospects, and all of their great pitchers over the years, the best may be yet to come. According to Craig Mish, who has been watching the Marlins for 30 years at this point, Eury Perez may be better than them all.
Eury Perez could be Miami Marlins next pitching star
Mish was not done with his praise for Perez. He also stated that he thinks the Marlins’ phenom could be the youngest starter in the majors since Doc Gooden in 1984. Considering how impressive Gooden was at the start of his career, that is high praise indeed.
It is easy to see why Mish, and the Marlins, would be so high on Perez. He exploded up the prospect charts last year, with his power curve and high octane fastball. His changeup improved as well, showing the makings of a plus offering. If his command improves, he is a future top of the rotation arm and a true ace.
He showed that potential during the 2021 minor league season. Perez posted an impressive 1.96 ERA and a 0.885 WHiP in his 78 innings, striking out 108 batters with 26 walks between Low-A and High-A. While he may start the 2022 season back in High-A, it would not be a surprise to see him rocket up the ladder during the season.
Eury Perez seemingly came out of nowhere to be one of the Miami Marlins top pitching prospects. His star is only beginning to ascend.
