We have all been there. Vacation is over, and after days of sitting around in comfortable clothes, we have to find our pants and head out of the house. It is a feeling that can unite everyone, including Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker.
Such was the case on Sunday. Baker, in a comment that was presented without any context, stated that it was the first day he had worn pants since October or November.
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker is all of us
Baker did not give details as to the rest of his wardrobe. Chances are, even if he was hanging around the house in his boxers, he was still wearing his wristbands as they seem to be surgically attached. Baker without the wristbands is the same as a bird without feathers or a squirrel without fur.
Chances are, Baker had the same reaction as the rest of us when confronted with the reality that his days in comfort were over. He looked at his pants hanging in the closet, heaved a heavy sigh of regret and longing for those days gone by, and took them from the hanger. It is an act of surrender, an acceptance that those carefree days are over and responsibilities have to take over.
Of course, Baker putting on pants and heading to work is different than it is for most of us. He gets to head to the ballpark, enjoy the sunlight, and watch the Astros as they prepare for the upcoming season. His insights and thoughts will help shape the roster. In that case, it is certainly worth putting on a pair of pants for the first time in months.
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker was just like all of us during his time off. Now that he is heading back to work, he has to find his pants.
