The Colorado Rockies have been rumored to be targeting outfielders since the lockout ended. While the usual suspects have been listed – Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, and Michael Conforto – it will take more than one of those players to provide enough of a boost to the lineup. They need other pieces, even in the outfield, should they land one of the top bats available.

A signing could be on the way soon. Joc Pederson had an interesting post on Twitter, waxing poetic about “a little place called Aspen.”

Joc Pederson foreshadowing Colorado Rockies deal?

For the sake of argument, there are four townships in the United States named Aspen, with those areas located in Colorado, Maryland, Virginia, and Wyoming. None of those states necessarily fit Pederson’s three ideals, but Aspen, Colorado certainly comes close, especially during ski season.

Aspen is also just 200 miles from Coors Field. While it may be a four hour drive due to road conditions, and is colder than Pederson is hoping for, there is certainly plenty of beer there. And, playing in a ballpark named for a beer has its appeal.

Pederson would certainly be an upgrade over what the Rockies had in the outfield last year. While his .238/.310/.422 batting line in 481 plate appearances, with 18 homers and 19 doubles, may not stand out, it is better than any of their outfielders not named Connor Joe. He could also solve their center field problem while leaving room for any of those other top outfielders at the corners.

He would also make an impact on the Rockies in other ways as well. Pederson is one of just eight players to win a World Series with different teams in back to back years. He knows what it takes to win, something that has not happened much in recent years for the Rockies. That experience, with a somewhat young roster, could pay off in future years.
