What we know about the car crash involving New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso

Alonso was not on the field on Monday after the crash, but planned to be back with the team and working out on Tuesday.

He described the incident to reporters at Mets camp.

Haley Alonso posted the aftermath of the crash on her Instagram page and detailed what she saw as she was following her husband when the accident occurred. Here’s a portion of what she wrote on her page describing what happened during and immediately after the crash.

"“Once the car struck the side of his truck, it flipped 3 times and slid into where you see it in these videos. I slammed on my breaks, jumped out of my car and ran up to his truck. I was terrified of what I was going to see. I couldn’t see inside of the truck because the windshield was shattered. I screamed for him just hoping that he’d be able to answer me. He said he was ok and was going to kick out the windshield to escape since he was trapped.”"
