Los Angeles Dodgers not expecting Trevor Bauer soon, if ever
Trevor Bauer’s status is going to be a continual question for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The league has yet to issue a ruling on any potential punishment, kicking the can further down the road as they extended his leave again last week. At some point, they will need to make a decision as to his future.
But it seems as though the Dodgers have their minds made up. Manager Dave Roberts stated in an interview that he does not expect to have Bauer as a part of the pitching staff for the foreseeable future, if ever again.
Los Angeles Dodgers not expecting Trevor Bauer back
There are several ways to take that statement. It could be that the Dodgers and Roberts are expecting that Bauer will be handed a lengthy suspension for violating the league’s domestic abuse policy. Sam Dyson currently holds the “record” for the longest suspension for domestic violence as he was banned for the 2021 season; could Bauer be looking at a longer banishment?
It is also possible that the Dodgers are looking to move on from Bauer entirely. They had previously traded Yasiel Puig to the Reds along with other pieces just to get him off the roster. The same sort of deal could happen if a team is willing to take the PR hit to add his talent.
Then there is the option of just cutting bait. Yes, the Dodgers would be on the hook for his salary, but that is not something that they seem overly concerned with. This is an ownership group that blows past any caps to build their roster and would not think twice about throwing money at a problem.
Major League Baseball still needs to make a determination about Trevor Bauer. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers do not expect him back soon, if ever.
