Here is the latest injury history and updates regarding Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers
How the elbow injury happened to Max Muncy
During the last game of the 2021 regular season, Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers tore the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow after a collision at first base with Jace Peterson of the Milwaukee Brewers. You can see the play in the video below.
After hitting a career-high 36 home runs and driving in 94 runs while slashing .249/.368/.527, the injury caused Muncy to miss the entire 2021 postseason. He finished 10th overall in last season’s National League MVP voting.
In November, Max Muncy admits recovery from injury is going slow
In an interview with MLB Network in late November, Muncy detailed his recovery from the UCL tear and saying in part, “I’m not recovering as quick as I would like, but that’s what happens when you do some serious damage to your body. A torn UCL is a slow process.”
You can see the interview where he details the injury and his recovery (that included avoiding any kind of surgery) below.
Max Muncy gives an injury update as spring training gets underway
Will Muncy be ready for Opening Day? It’s a question that was a big topic as Dodgers camp got underway in Arizona and Muncy told MLB Network that he “thinks” he would be ready to join the Los Angeles lineup when the Dodgers open the season on April 8 in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. If not on Opening Day, Muncy believes it will be soon after that.
Muncy cleared his first obstacle of spring training on Monday by playing three innings at third base for the Dodgers in their matchup against the Chicago White Sox. Muncy went 0-for-1 at the plate but had no issues swinging the bat or making any plays in the field.
“It felt good to be back,” Muncy told reporters in Arizona. “The elbow felt fine doing ABs against guys in the back field, but you get a little adrenaline going and see how it feels with those types of swings. It felt good today.”
We will continue to update this story below with any news regarding Muncy’s return from injury as Opening Day gets closer.
