Will Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels repeat as the American League Most Valuable Player? According to some preseason MLB betting odds, his biggest competition in 2022 may come from his own teammate, Mike Trout.

MLB betting odds are favoring a pair of Los Angeles Angels to win the American League MVP award

According to the MLB betting odds currently on WynnBet, Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels is favored to repeat as the AL MVP (with odds of +400 at the time of this article). Ohtani was named as the unanimous MVP selection in 2021, marking the fifth time a player had won the honor in a unanimous decision.

When is the last time that happened? It was back in 2014 when Mike Trout was named as the MVP. With Trout now back and healthy after suffering through an injury-shortened 2021 campaign, he is listed right behind Ohtani in the AL MVP odds at +425.

Behind the pair of Angels is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays, who finished second to Ohtani in last season’s MVP voting. He is currently +475 in what is a very tight potential three-way race to the top of the AL MVP leaderboard heading into the 2022 season.

After the Blue Jays slugger, representation from the AL East continues with Wander Franco of the Tampa Bay Rays entering the season in fourth place in MVP odds at +1500. After that is Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees (+2000), who finished in fourth place in last season’s MVP voting.

As a note, the number after the plus sign in any of the betting odds listed above indicates how much of a profit a bettor would receive if he or she wagered $100 on a bet. For example, betting $100 on Ohtani and him winning the AL MVP award would result in a profit for $400.
