7) Starlin Castro

Starlin Castro is another veteran infielder that could help a team out.

Castro, 32, played in 87 games with the Nationals in 2021 and he hit .283/.333/.375 with an OPS+ of 95 and an rWAR of 1.1. However, he is a bit lower on this list because he may not be returning to baseball.

He was suspended for 30 games last season due to violating MLB’s Domestic Abuse Policy. The Nationals released him in early September when the suspension was up.

6) J.A. Happ

J.A. Happ could be a back-end starter for a team that is trying to find a veteran innings eater.

Happ, 39, went 10-8 in 30 starts (152 1/3 innings) with the Twins and Cardinals last year. He had a 5.79 ERA overall but in his 11 starts with the Cardinals down the stretch, he had an ERA of 4.00 (99 ERA+) with a 1.278 WHIP.

5) Mitch Moreland

Mitch Moreland has never been a great hitter for average or a great defender but now with the DH being in the NL, he could be a left-handed hitting DH/first baseman for a number of teams.

Moreland, 36, played in 81 games in 2021 for Oakland and he hit 10 homers and 30 RBI with an OPS+ of 95. In 2020, he had 10 homers and 29 RBI in just 42 games with an OPS+ of 138 and he had an OPS+ of 111 with 19 homers and 58 RBI in 91 games for Boston in 2019.
