1 bold prediction for each and every MLB team in 2022
Atlanta Braves — They get back to the World Series
The Atlanta Braves are the most rounded team in the majors. They have a great lineup and great rotation … and that’s without Ronald Acuña, Jr. and Mike Soroka. When they come back from their injuries, they are the class of the NL and, for my money, the best team in baseball.
Miami Marlins — They finish close to .500
The Miami Marlins have a good, young pitching staff that includes Sandy Alcantara, Trevor Rogers, Pablo Lopez, and Jesús Luzardo. However, their offense is awful, which will hold them back.
Regardless, they lost 95 games in 2021 and they were over .500 in the shortened 2020 season and made the playoffs. They will be closer to that in 2022.
New York Mets — They miss the playoffs
Jacob deGrom is injured … again. Max Scherzer had an injury scare at the end of Spring Training. Chris Bassitt has never made more than 27 starts in a season since he made his MLB debut in 2014. Taijuan Walker was pulled early from his final Spring start due to a knee injury (which seems minor but it’s the Mets).
They had a slew of other injuries in 2021 and it’s already happening again. They also lost Marcus Stroman, Javier Báez, and Michael Conforto. Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, and Starling Marte will help them and Francisco Lindor *should* be better but there are way too many question marks on the team in production and injuries.
And, as we all know, the Mets are the Mets so there will be a ton of drama during the season.
Philadelphia Phillies — They get the first NL Wild Card spot
The Philadelphia Phillies addressed their bullpen issues with a slew of guys this offseason so that should be better. Their offense is great and their rotation is serviceable.
The improved bullpen alone should get them into the high-80s or low-90s in win total so with their other additions, they will be a playoff team in 2022.
Washington Nationals — They extend Juan Soto during the season
Other than Juan Soto, the Washington Nationals are a really bad team. They will be the second-worst team in the NL once again in 2022 … but Juan Soto is the best player in the NL and the best hitter in the sport.
It will take $400 million to even be in the ballpark for an extension and possibly $500 million, but Soto is worth it and the Nationals have the money to get it done.
