In theory, we know where Jose Quintana is. The fairly well traveled lefty is a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, having taken the ball on Tuesday against the Cubs. It is just that one would not know that when looking at Quintana’s Twitter page.
There would be a great deal of confusion as to where Quintana actually is based on his profile. His profile picture shows him as a member of the Giants, but his last actual tweet depicts him before his first outing with the Angels. The Pirates, meanwhile, are not mentioned at all.
Jose Quintana is a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates – we think
To be fair, it could be easy for Quintana to forget where he is. Since the beginning of the 2020 season, he has pitched in the Cubs, Angels, and Giants organizations. He had a brief stint in the Dominican Winter League this offseason as well. Clearly, Quintana’s whereabouts are so plausibly deniable that even he is not sure where he is located.
The Pirates are hoping that Quintana found his form once again during his journies. He had a rough showing between the Angels and Giants last season, as he posted a 6.43 ERA and a 1.730 WHiP in his 63 innings. While he struck out 85 batters, Quintana also issued 35 walks and allowed 12 homers.
He was solid in his Pirates’ debut. Quintana allowed one run on five hits and two walks over his 5.1 innings, striking out three batters. The only damage came on a Seiya Suzuki homer in the fifth inning as Quintana was generally able to keep the ball out of the air.
The Pirates have to hope that this is a sign of things to come. Even if he does not return to the form he showed during his All Star season in 2016, he could be a solid option at the trade deadline. Hopefully, he will update his social media to show his correct team first.
Jose Quintana had a solid debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates. It would just have been impossible to know where Quintana was based on his social media accounts.
