The Baltimore Orioles just finished a 3 game series against one of their AL East rivals, the New York Yankees. Overall it was an extremely interesting series, with many ups and downs from both sides, as well as quite a few interesting calls from umpires that affected both sides differently. Let’s have a look at the scores.

Game 1: New York Yankees 1-2 Baltimore Orioles F/11

Baltimore walked this game off, literally, after 11 innings. After Aroldis Chapman couldn’t hear his new pitching communication device, he threw ball four, which just barely missed the plate to Ramon Urias to walk him with the bases loaded.

Baltimore pitcher Jordan Lyles surprised me in this game, he was able to go five innings, only giving up one run, while striking out four batters. Baltimore’s bullpen would go the rest of the way, pitching six innings while only allowing one hit, with the combination of Dillion Tate, Jorge Lopez, Bryan Baker, Cionel Perez, and Joey Krehbiel combining for 9 strikeouts over 6 innings. Krehbiel would get the win, not only his first win of the season but the first of his career. Offensively the Orioles struggled, going 1-15 with runners in scoring position for the game. Hays and Chirinos both had two hit games in this one.

Game 2: New York Yankees 5-2 Baltimore Orioles

This game had the same story that a lot of the other Orioles games have had this season, struggling to get hits with runners in scoring position. The Orioles would be 1-7 with RISP, with their only two runs in this game coming from a Cedric Mullins home run in the bottom of the third.

Tyler Wells got the start in this game, going four innings for the Orioles, giving up no runs, and looking dominant on the mound. Travis Lakins Sr. would come in during the top of the fifth and give up four runs, giving the Yankees a lead they would never give up.

Game 3: New York Yankees 0-5 Baltimore Orioles

While watching this game through five, I really thought the Orioles would have no chance of scoring anything in this game. Yankees starter Nestor Cortes struck out 12 Orioles batters through five innings while throwing an immaculate inning in the fourth.

Bruce Zimmerman got the start in this game for the Orioles, going five innings and striking out six while allowing no runs. The combination of Felix Bautista, Dillion Tate, and Jorge Lopez would come in and finish the game out, with Lopez getting the win for the game. The Orioles bats would finally come alive in the eighth inning when they would score all five of their runs via a Rougned Odor two run single, a Kelvin Gutierrez two run double, and a Jorge Mateo RBI single.
