Tyler Glasnow injury update
Tyler Glasnow cemented his ace status last year, pitching a 2.63 ERA over 88 innings with an impressive K/BB ratio.
Unfortunately for Rays fans, we may not be seeing Glasnow at all this year or at the very least until the end of the season. He is currently on the 60-day IL for Tommy John recovery and ankle surgery that he underwent in March. Per Niel Solondz of the Rays Radio, Glasnow has been playing catch from a 70-foot max distance, but that’s about all the throwing action we’ve seen.
Because of both the ankle and Tommy John recovery, I expect Glasnow’s return to be sometime around late September to early October, if at all in 2022. If the Rays can clinch a fourth consecutive playoff berth, there’s a good chance we’ll likely be seeing Glasnow on the bump for a few innings in October.
Dustin May injury update
I can’t not include Dustin May in this article, considering he deserves to be mentioned among this elite group of arms. He’s one of the most electric young arms in our game, and I can’t wait to see him pitch again. The Dodgers also desperately need May back for starting pitching depth.
He was placed on the 60-day IL to start the season.
On April 2, May threw his first bullpen and is expected to start throwing to live hitters soon. It’s unclear whether he will return as a starter or out of the bullpen, but it’s certainly wonderful news for Dodger fans. Barring no setbacks, I expect his return to be sometime after the All-Star break (mid-July).
