It was a scary scene on Tuesday night in San Diego when San Diego Padres first baseman Luke Voit and Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson collided on a play at the plate in the first inning.

The Reds catcher was diagnosed with a concussion and was placed on the 7-day concussion IL. You can watch the play below.

However, three hours later, Cincinnati Reds outfielder and former San Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham still hadn’t calmed down over the situation and decided to be a ranting hothead.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Pham was a complete hothead to the San Diego Padres first baseman Luke Voit

After the game, a number of players and both managers of the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres spoke to the media about the collision. Luke Voit said that his collision with Tyler Stephenson was completely accidental but he expressed remorse for the end result. Reds outfielder Tommy Pham was a complete hothead over it.

Here is what Luke Voit said, according to Mark Sheldon and A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com.

“I wasn’t trying to take him out or anything,” Voit said. “I guess my elbow just kind of smoked his head a little bit. Hope he’s all right. No hard feelings. It’s baseball. I wasn’t trying to make it dirty or anything. I’m just trying to make a play obviously. Unfortunately, I was out. So I ended up getting the short end of the stick on it, too.”

Cincinnati Reds infielder Kyle Farmer (who was the relay man on the play) wasn’t happy about the play and thought it was dirty.

“Looking back at the replay, I’m not too happy about the slide,” Farmer said. “Not too often you see a runner slide and grab someone’s head and slam it to the ground like that. You’re usually trying to reach for the bag. Maybe that’s what he was trying to do. After looking at the replay, it looked like a wrestling move to Tyler’s head and snapped it down.”
