Since he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2018, Red Sox fans have been hyped for the arrival of Triston Casas. However, the No. 2 prospect for the Red Sox and MLB’s No. 16 prospect has yet to make his MLB debut. Casas has already won the title of “Most Valuable Player of 2017” while being part of the Under-18 United States National Baseball Team.

He was also part of the United States National Baseball Team in the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo in 2021. His team won the silver medal and he hit home runs against Japan, South Korea, and the Dominican Republic.

The 22-year-old Casas is that phenomenal when it comes to playing a mature game. With the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, he is proving himself with 12 RBI and four home runs heading into action on April 30. This season is pretty exciting for Casas, but when will we see him finally slugging for Boston Red Sox? Let’s discuss!

Triston Casas — From amateur to professional career in the Boston Red Sox organization

Thus far, Casas is creating a stir in the minor leagues. Reports agree that Casas is one of the most powerful sluggers in MiLB. From the start, Casas was serious about his game, and that’s why he is the second-ranked prospect for the Red Sox.

Amateur era

Casas played both the corner infield positions at American Heritage School in Plantation, Fla. With 53 RBI and 11 home runs, he was a star in his school league. He graduated a year early from high school to become eligible for the MLB draft. His hard work paid off by getting drafted by a contender. With the 26th overall selection, Casas was drafted in 2018 by the Red Sox.

Professional career

In 2018, Triston Casas signed a bonus of $2,552,800 with the Red Sox. Initially, he was assigned to Boston’s Rookie League team. As a designated hitter, Casas proved his worth in the league.

Later in 2019, Casas was named “Minor League Player of the Year.” This paved a way for him to get promoted to Class-A Advanced Salem. Again, he proved his incredible game and was named “Minor League Offensive Player of the Year.” He played 122 games in 2019 and racked up 81 RBI and 20 home runs.

After the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Triston Casas began the new year with Double-A Portland. He also played nine games for Triple-A Worcester in 2021 and mashed 14 home runs along with 59 RBI. In 2022, Casas returned to Worcester and has put together a .793 OPS thus far.

His chances during the 2022 Major League Baseball season

At 9-12 heading into April 30 action, something needs to change for the Boston Red Sox.

Boston is in the bottom half of the league when it comes to producing runs. The Red Sox recently shook things up by designating Travis Shaw for assignment, leaving Franchy Cordero as the backup to Bobby Dalbec at first base.

Dalbec has struggled to start the season, posting a .457 OPS and hitting just one home run. With such a disastrous start at first base for the Red Sox, could Triston Casas be called up?

Casas could potentially provide some power for the Red Sox as well as some offensive production at first base, something that has been severely lacking this season.

Conclusion

Sooner or later, Casas is going to be part of Major League Baseball. He is showing solid results in Worcester at the moment, slashing .239/.373/.463.

MLB.com projects that Casas will make his MLB debut sometime this season. His power could provide a spark for a team that certainly needs one in the early going of the season.
