If you have shown up or tuned in to any of the Cleveland Guardians‘ last six series finales, chances are you would see some brooms around the stadium. After starting the season out with a four-game split with the Kansas City Royals (2 losses followed by 2 wins), Cleveland has been a part of six straight sweeps.

After the season opening series in Kansas City, Cleveland traveled to Cincinnati and took both games of a two-game series against the Reds.  Following an off day, the San Francisco Giants came to town and proceeded to sweep the Guardians.  Then after two days of weather delays, Cleveland won both games of a double header against the Chicago White Sox, and then finished off the sweep the next day.

Cleveland Guardians becoming masters of the sweep

A ten-game road trip that began on the east coast and concluded on the west coast, saw the New York Yankees (3 games) and the Los Angeles Angels (4 games) come out on top of the first seven games. Then Cleveland went to the Oakland Coliseum and swept the A’s in a three game weekend series. That is a heck of a way for a team to start the season. Feast or famine.

One of the great things about looking at baseball numbers after a month, is there can be some strange things that take place over that small of a sample size. Not only have the Guardians been on the sweep or be swept train this year, but they are also a remarkable 0 – 10 against teams that are above .500.

Both of these trends are bound to come to an end quickly as the Cleveland Guardians are set to host a short two game series against San Diego starting tonight, and then will have Toronto in town for a four-game series starting Thursday. Both the Padres and Blue Jays are above .500, so unless the Guardians drop the next six games at home where they currently have a 3 -3 record, one and more than likely both, of these interesting streaks will come to an end. You’ve got to love the oddities that are sometimes found within the numbers of baseball.
