With Sunday being Mother’s Day, Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies took a moment to recognize the special day for all moms (including his own) after hitting another home run against the New York Mets.
Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies sent a message to his mom after hitting a home run against the New York Mets
Facing New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer in the bottom of the first, Bryce Harper got the Philadelphia Phillies on the scoreboard with a solo home run to left field. The rocket off Harper’s bat (pink, of course, for Mother’s Day) went 390 feet and had an exit velocity of 109 mph.
Of course, knowing it was Mother’s Day, Harper not only celebrated the long ball with his teammates, but also gave a shoutout to his mom, Sheri, as the camera caught him heading into the dugout.
This isn’t the first time that the 29-year-old reigning National League Most Valuable Player has paid tribute to his mom in a very public setting on Mother’s Day. Back in 2019, Harper was featured in a video on ESPN reading a letter he had written to his mom about all she had done for him and the difference she had made in his life.
The home run was the sixth of the season for Harper and came during a stretch in the schedule where the Mets and Phillies are seeing each other plenty. This is the 10th meeting of the season already between the two National League East rivals, including the seventh game in the past 10 days. However, heading into Sunday’s action, the Mets had been able to somewhat contain Harper as he posted just a .192/.300/.577 slash line in seven games (5-for-26).
Three of those hits, however, were home runs. With Sunday’s blast, and subsequent tribute to his mom, Harper now has four of six homers off New York pitching this season.
