30. Cincinnati Reds

The Reds won a game on Sunday, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates and improving to 5-23 on the season. If you’re going to play the Reds, you don’t want to play them on Sunday. Of Cincinnati’s five wins, three have come on Sunday (a day where they are 3-2 this season).

29. Detroit Tigers

Detroit has lost 10 of their last 11 road games and the offense has certainly not held up its end of the bargain during that tough stretch. The Tigers are hitting .205 away from Comerica Park and its .548 OPS is next-to-last in all of baseball, with only Cincinnati with a lower mark.

28. Washington Nationals

Not long after we bragged about Washington’s propensity to put up runs on the road, the Nationals lost four of their next five games to finish up a 4-5 road trip through the West. Josh Bell, however, continues to make an impact at the plate, with his .343 batting average being the fifth-highest in all of baseball and recording a .971 OPS that has him within MLB’s top 10.

27. Oakland Athletics

Oakland has lost nine consecutive games and the luster from the 10-9 start has eroded into a 10-18 record and last place in the American League West. Perhaps Ramón Laureano’s return from an 80-game suspension can shake the A’s from their doldrums.

26. Boston Red Sox

Trevor Story’s transition from Colorado to Boston has not gone well … yet. So far this season, Story has struck out 35 times in 93 at-bats and has heard the chorus of boos from the Red Sox faithful. Story is hitting just .115 over his last seven games. That will likely change, but nothing seems to be going right for Story or the Red Sox right now. They’ve lost five in a row and seven of their last eight to fall to the bottom of the American League East.

25. Kansas City Royals

Kansas City is 3-7 on the road through the early portion of the schedule. They have seven consecutive road games this week, taking them from Baltimore to Texas to Colorado. With weather issues, Kansas City has played the fewest games of any MLB team (25) and is tied for the bottom of MLB’s scoring with 78 runs.

24. Chicago Cubs

The Friendly Confines have been anything but for the Cubs this season, who fell to 4-11 at Wrigley Field this season with the Los Angeles Dodgers finishing off a three-game sweep on Sunday night. The Cubs haven’t scored more than three runs in a game in May and scored just three runs total in three games against the Dodgers.

23. Baltimore Orioles

Yes, the Orioles are above the Red Sox in the American League East standings … and reinforcements could well be on the way soon for Baltimore as top prospects D.L. Hall and Adley Rutschman have been promoted to Triple-A. There is reason for optimism in Baltimore that the team could have some new, exciting faces in the lineup soon.

22. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates lost catcher Roberto Pérez for what could be a lengthy amount of time thanks to a hamstring injury, adding another challenge to a Pittsburgh offense that has a negative-45 run differential through its first 27 games.

21. Texas Rangers

Jon Gray was the biggest pitching acquisition of the offseason for the Rangers, but has already been on the 10-day injured list twice this season. He has thrown just 12 innings in 2022, but he is scheduled to start on Monday when the Rangers visit the Yankees. Can he stay healthy and evolve into the ace the Rangers think he could be?
