One has to give Scott Boras credit. He is certainly trying his hardest to generate some sort of market for former New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto. Of course, that is easier said than done when the player in question underwent shoulder surgery that will keep him out for the year.

Oh, about that… It turns out that Conforto may actually be able to play this year after all! At least, that is what Boras is trying to claim as he is saying that the former Met could begin swinging the bat before he is able to throw and may be able to return in September.

That was not Boras’ only claim about Conforto. He stated that “multiple teams” have been in contact about his services, and that he will be signing with a team after the 2022 MLB Draft. The reason is that teams do not want to give up a draft pick in compensation to sign an injured player.

On the surface, that logic makes sense. However, it is not as though Boras told the truth at any point during Conforto’s time in free agency thus far. He had claimed that Conforto would sign soon after the lockout and that the outfielder was 100% completely healthy. Then he admitted that Conforto had a shoulder injury, but there was nothing to see there and he definitely did not need surgery. Until he did.

It is Boras’ job to find contracts for his players and to get as much money as possible for them. It is a job that he is quite impressive at and why he is one of the top agents in the game. That does not mean that he is exactly a trusted source of information for his players, especially given his track record as it pertains to Conforto’s health this offseason.
