Boston Red Sox should give Clint Frazier the chance to be the villain

It’s been a wild 24 hours or so for former New York Yankees (and now former Chicago Cubs) outfielder Clint Frazier. Now looking for a new team just hours after once again making some very interesting comments about the Yankees, can you imagine the storylines that could be set up should the Boston Red Sox take a chance on the 27-year-old Frazier?

Here is why the Boston Red Sox should take a chance on Clint Frazier

Frazier’s comments about the Yankees being a “cookie cutter” franchise and wanting all of their players to fit a certain mold (which he obviously felt he didn’t) certainly drew plenty of attention ahead of the Cubs-Yankees game in the Bronx on Friday night. And that was before the Cubs announced that they had designated Frazier for assignment before the game, meaning that any chance Frazier would hear the opinions of the Yankees faithful about his comments when he stepped into the batter’s box would have to be postponed.

With that thought in mind, enter a proposition for the Boston Red Sox.

While the Red Sox have climbed back above .500 and are once again in the discussion for a postseason berth in what is an extremely stacked American League East, the production from the team’s outfield has been a sore point all season. Entering Saturday’s play, Red Sox outfielders have combined to post minus-2.1 bWAR, the fourth-lowest mark of any MLB team.

Picking up Frazier could not only potentially provide a boost for the Red Sox outfield (if Frazier can rebound to his numbers from the 2019 and 2020 seasons when he combined to slash .267/.347/.497 in 406 plate appearances), but it also certainly sets up plenty of juicy possibilities for Frazier to exact revenge on the Yankees, a team he has targeted with plenty of comments since his departure following the 2021 season.

Granted, Frazier isn’t a perfect fit for the Red Sox and likely still wouldn’t get a majority of playing time, a similar situation he found himself in with both New York and Chicago. However, some team is going to take a chance on Frazier to see if he can contribute. Why shouldn’t the Red Sox give Frazier a chance to be an instant hero in Boston and even more vilified in the Big Apple?

Did the Red Sox already find their next closer?. dark. Next

Frazier has already shown he wants to make an impact while also showing his disdain for the Yankees. There is no better place to do that than with the Boston Red Sox.
