Jesus Aguilar

The Tampa Bay Rays were looking for a right handed compliment to Ji-Man Choi during the offseason. There was even speculation that Tommy Pham could return, learning first base to add more versatility to the lineup.

The Rays have been able to cobble the lineup together despite not bringing in that piece. Yandy Diaz has once again shifted to first while Isaac Paredes has been an impressive power threat at the hot corner on those days. However, given Vidal Brujan’s struggles with the bat and his being needed in right, Paredes is also needed at second base.

There may be an answer right down the road. The Miami Marlins are likely to be selling off some pieces at the trade deadline, especially impending free agents that will not be part of the future. Jesus Aguilar is one such player.

He would fit the mold of what the Rays are looking for. A right handed power threat at first, he would allow Diaz to remain at the hot corner while Paredes would be able to be used more at second if need be while Brujan is in right. Aguilar would fit the Rays’ motif as well, another underrated player who would not draw much attention that could make a big difference.
