The Chicago White Sox have been one of the most disappointing teams in the first third of the MLB season. After most analysts thought that they would run away with the AL Central crown, the White Sox are in third place with a 27-30 record.

On Saturday, after they had a 5-0 lead entering the fifth inning against the Texas Rangers, the White Sox still lost as they lost 11-9 in 10 innings.

As a result, White Sox fans started chanting “Fire Tony” after the team was down in the top of the 10th inning.

White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and his front office should heed the advice of their fans.

Chicago White Sox fans want the team to fire Tony La Russa

The Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies have fired their managers in the last week or so and the Chicago White Sox should follow suit with Tony La Russa.

It would confirm that La Russa is going out with a whimper as the Hall of Famer has won the World Series three times, been to the World Series six times, and won the Manager of the Year Award in his respective league six times … but baseball has changed a lot in the last decade that La Russa wasn’t managing and he simply hasn’t been able to make the transition.

In just a year-plus as manager, he has had numerous blunders as manager.

In late 2020 just as he was named the new manager of the White Sox, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving after he was charged with a DUI for the second time (the first coming in 2007).

In 2021, he didn’t understand the extra-inning baserunner rule and tried to teach the “unwritten rules” of baseball to Yermín Mercedes.

Earlier this week, as Call To The Pen’s David Hill noted, Tony La Russa made a huge blunder and it cost his team epically. And despite what La Russa thinks, it’s not just young people that flabbergasted by his move. White Sox TV analyst Steve Stone, who has been a pitcher or broadcaster in the majors since 1971, was also flabbergasted by the move.

The Phillies have won eight games in a row since they fired Joe Girardi but for the White Sox, it doesn’t seem like they will get that spark as it seems like Tony La Russa will be around at least for the rest of the season.
