The 30s are popular in Major League Baseball right now. Not only do 26 teams have either a win total or a loss total in the 30s, but almost every team has also either reached or surpassed that mark thus far in 2022. That is, every team except for the Cleveland Guardians.
The Guardians have a 29-27 record heading into Monday and are one of just seven teams in the American League that are over .500. They are also the only team that has yet to reach or surpass 30 in either wins or losses.
Cleveland Guardians hold unique spot in MLB
The weather has a lot to do with that stature. The Guardians have only played 56 games, fewer than any other team in the majors. There are a lot of double headers coming down the line.
This status will not last much longer either. At most, it will take three games before the Guardians either win or lose their 30th game on the season. Considering they are facing the 27-34 Rockies on Tuesday, it may not take that long.
After a slow start to the season, the Guardians have gone on an impressive run, winning seven of their past ten games to pull into the playoff picture. As the Guardians are 12-8 against the AL Central, and two games under .500 against the rest of the league, the unbalanced schedule could work out in their favor as they aim to return to the postseason.
They are not far off. The Guardians are a half game behind the Red Sox for the final Wild Card spot in the American League heading into Monday’s action. As the Guardians get into the 30s, and beyond, for their win total, that push to reach the playoffs will continue.
The Cleveland Guardians are in a unique place in the majors right now. They remain the last team to have neither won nor lost at least 30 games.
