Lou Trivino

At this point, the Oakland A’s may love to give Lou Trivino away.

To say that Trivino has been awful would be an understatement. He had posted an 8.35 ERA and a 2.018 WHiP in his 18.1 innings entering Thursday, with opponents tattooing him to the tune of a .337/.409/.518 batting line in 93 plate appearances. It would be difficult to consider him an upgrade in any facet.

But Trivino has been incredibly unlucky. He has allowed a ridiculous .500 batting average on balls in play, skewing his overall numbers. His 3.02 FIP indicates that he is much better than the raw numbers would lead one to believe, while his 14.2 K/9 rate is a career best. Trivino may just need to go to a team that knows how to work with underrated assets.

The San Francisco Giants would be a perfect match. Not only would Trivino cost virtually nothing in terms of prospects, but he could also help to solidify the middle of their bullpen. If the Giants are able to get him back to form, they could have a late inning arm at a fraction of the cost.

Lou Trivino has been better than his numbers indicate. Getting him to a team that knows how to resurrect players could pay dividends.
