With the unveiling of the hats that will be worn for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are having a field day on social media with the design of the hat when it comes to the Houston Astros.

The MLB All-Star Game hat is giving Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees fans plenty of opportunities to poke the Houston Astros on social media

When New Era released the MLB All-Star Game hats, one thing was kept the same for all 30 clubs as each cap had a predominantly black theme with metallic gold often outlining or comprising the logo for each team. Additionally, a single star was put on each cap in a tip to the All-Star Game.

Well, the single star was immediately latched onto by fans of the Yankees and Dodgers, both fan bases who believe the 2017 World Series title earned by the Houston Astros should have an asterisk next to it after the Astros became embroiled in a cheating scandal that lasted during the regular season and postseason. Yes, that single star on the cap suddenly became an asterisk in the minds of many Dodgers and Yankees supporters, something they celebrated on social media with several pokes at Houston, a shared rival by both teams after beating the Yankees in the 2017 ALCS and the Dodgers in that year’s World Series.

You can see the design below, as well as one of the many comments that made the connection between the asterisk and the Astros.

The 2017 postseason and what the Astros did and did not do has been dissected many times (including in this New York Times article). The article also has quotes from Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge, showing both the Dodgers and Yankees feel cheating changed the course of the postseason.

dark. Next. The Dodgers trade that keeps looking better for Houston

While this fall will mark five years since Houston’s 2017 World Series run, this year’s All-Star Game hats are another reminder that fans in New York and Los Angeles are more than happy to bring up an asterisk in reference to the Astros any chance they can.
