When talking about moving to a city where there is rarely such a thing as a sure bet, it appears the Oakland A’s may have found one if they choose to relocate the franchise to Las Vegas.

Without relocation fees, the move of the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas just became a lot less costly

According to an article in The New York Post, the Oakland A’s would not be charged a relocation fee if the team moves from Oakland to Las Vegas. That could save the A’s up to $1 billion, money that could easily be shifted toward other items to bolster the team, including a new stadium.

Despite the news, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the A’s will be moving to Las Vegas, especially with a vote for a new stadium as part of the Howard Terminal Project coming up at the end of this month. You can see a timeline for what has happened for the A’s to even reach the point of having a vote for a new stadium by clicking here.

While there is no guarantee the A’s are leaving Oakland, the offer by MLB to bypass the relocation fee certainly makes a move to Nevada more appealing. The NFL’s Raiders have already traveled from Oakland to Las Vegas (at a cost of $378 million) and found success in their new home. Could the A’s be not far behind … and for less money?

There has been plenty of talk about where a stadium for the A’s would be located in Las Vegas, including some mention of a potential location on or near the famed Las Vegas Strip. With the NHL’s Golden Knights and the Raiders already close to the Strip, don’t be surprised if the A’s find a way to do the same should a move to Vegas become a reality.

A vote still looms that could give the A’s the chance to remain in Oakland. However, money and potential for the A’s is certainly flashing like a neon light in the distance from Las Vegas.
