Heading into Thursday’s action, the New York Yankees lead all of Major League Baseball with 56 wins and a .737 winning percentage. They also pace MLB in a different category that shows just how the team can never be counted out of any game this season.

This New York Yankees statistic shows just how dominant the 2022 version of the Bronx Bombers has been.

In a tweet shared by Katie Sharp of Stathead, she revealed that the New York Yankees are 24-20 in games this season where the team has trailed at some point in the contest. The rest of MLB teams haven’t fared so well, with Sharp crunching the numbers to find that every other team is at least 10 games below .500 when facing a deficit.

While that’s a fascinating statistic, there is another layer to it as well. The Yankees have played 76 games so far this season, meaning they have been tied or in the lead the entire game in 32 of those outings. The 44 where they have trailed for at least part of the game represents the third-fewest number of games where a team faced a deficit in all of MLB.

Part of the reason for New York’s ability to come back in games is based on the team’s collective home run power. Aaron Judge leads all MLB hitters with 29 home runs on the season and the Yankees just set an MLB record with the team’s 57th home run in the month of June. The 2016 Baltimore Orioles and the 2019 Atlanta Braves previously shared the record with 56 homers each.

Wednesday’s 5-3 home win over the Oakland A’s is a perfect example of New York’s ability to come from behind using the long ball. Oakland jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, with Judge hitting a homer in the bottom of the frame to slice into the lead, then Giancarlo Stanton delivering a three-run blast in the third to give the Yankees the edge and enough of a cushion to hold on for the win.

While there are many reasons why the New York Yankees are winning plenty of games in 2022, don’t overlook their power and ability to come from behind using it.
