There are very few areas in which the New York Yankees would need to upgrade. They have the best record in baseball by eight games over the Astros and have few holes on the roster. Nonetheless, it makes sense that the Yankees would look to upgrade their juggernaut as much as possible before the trade deadline.

One such area is in the outfield. Joey Gallo has been a major disappointment since he was acquired at the trade deadline last year. Aaron Hicks has been healthy for once, but aside from a hot stretch at the beginning of June, has been putrid this season.

New York Yankees have definite need in outfield

It is not a surprise that the Yankees have come to the same conclusion. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are planning on targeting upgrades to their outfield at the trade deadline.

Such a move would certainly help. Aaron Judge has been solid in center but is much better in right. Giancarlo Stanton has seen much more time in the outfield than anyone would want considering his injury history. Marwin Gonzalez may be a solid enough utility player, but he should not be a regular outfielder on a team with championship aspirations.

There are plenty of options for the Yankees to choose from. Trade rumors have been swirling around the likes of Andrew Benintendi, Trey Mancini, and Ben Gamel in terms of a corner outfielder. Ramon Laureano will be hotly sought after if the Yankees look to add a center fielder. The Yankees could get those needed pieces if they are willing to stomach the prospect cost.

At this point, the Yankees need to add those upgrades. They have not even reached the World Series since 2009, with the 2010s being the first decade that the franchise did not appear in the championship series since a century before. It is time to make those moves, especially as it comes to upgrading the outfield.
