Certainly not every Major League Baseball player celebrates his birthday during baseball season, and not every MLB slugger connects for a home run on his birthday even when it does fall on a day when he is playing. However, in MLB history, there are a few hitters who have celebrated their special day with several blasts over the outfield fence.
Which MLB player has hit the most home runs on his birthday?
There are currently two MLB players in the modern era who have hit six home runs on their birthday to share the all-time lead. Those two are Mark Reynolds (born on August 3 and played 13 MLB seasons) and Alex Rodriguez (born on July 27 and played 22 MLB seasons).
Rodriguez hit his final birthday home run on his 40th birthday while Reynolds tallied his last birthday long ball on his 34th birthday.
Right behind Reynolds and Rodriguez are five players who have smacked five home runs on their birthday, including Todd Helton, Chipper Jones, Derrek Lee, Al Simmons, and Mike Trout, who is the only active player on the list. Trout, born on August 7, hit his last home run on his birthday during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. It was part of a stretch where he hit four home runs in four days after returning to the lineup following the birth of his son, Beckham Aaron Trout.
Trout hit home runs on his 21st, 22nd, 24th, 26th and 29th birthdays. He was injured last season and did not play on his birthday, keeping his career tally at five home runs in seven birthday games.
Keep an eye on Trout this season on his birthday as the Los Angeles Angels are scheduled to play that day at the Seattle Mariners. Trout went on a home run tear in the Pacific Northwest earlier this season, something he has done often in his career against his American League West rivals.
