With the San Diego Padres unveiling the final Nike City Connect uniform design for the 2022 season, baseball fans are already looking ahead to next season and the possibility of the New York Yankees donning their own City Connect uniforms … and what they might look like.
What could the Nike City Connect uniforms look like for the New York Yankees?
The New York Yankees have long been one of the most conservative and traditional MLB teams when it comes to uniform design. The pinstripes with the interlocking NY and the road gray uniforms with New York across the chest have been the options for years, but the Yankees will soon have an alternate jersey to go with it as well, thanks to the introduction of the Nike City Connect uniforms.
While there is no set date for when the Yankees will join the Nike City Connect uniform universe, one thing is for sure: New York Yankees fans will see a shakeup of the time-tested Yankees uniforms.
Looking at what some of the other Nike City Connect uniforms have featured, could the Yankees new uniforms feature the Bronx? The Chicago Cubs and White Sox have already had theirs debut and each highlighted the part of the Windy City where they play. The Yankees focusing on the Bronx while the New York Mets (who have not had theirs debut yet either) focus on Queens makes perfect sense.
And what about having “Bombers” on the front of the jersey instead of “New York,” paying tribute to the current and past editions of the Bronx Bombers. With Aaron Judge leading all MLB hitters in homers this season and the Yankees leading the league as a team, the Bombers would be very fitting.
How about reverse pinstripes, with a midnight navy jersey with white stripes (think of what the White Sox did with theirs this season) and pants that carry the stripes all the way down? Having a spin on the pinstripes theme just makes sense.
On the sleeve, how about having the symbols for the B, D, and 4 trains that bring fans to Yankee Stadium. On the jock tag, pay tribute to Monument Park somehow, with either the number of jerseys that have been retired so far, or an outline of one of the monuments and/or plaque with circle above it.
The hats are perhaps the hardest thing to envision. It’s tough to think about a Yankees team (except around 9/11) not wearing the interlocking NY on their hats. Maybe Bronx on the hats as well?
That’s just one idea for how the New York Yankees could unveil the Nike City Connect jerseys when the time comes for them to be unveiled. What would you want to see with the jerseys? Let us know in the comments section below.
