There had been speculation about David Price’s future heading into the 2022 season. He was entering the final year of the seven year, $217 million deal that he had signed during the 2015-16 offseason, with the thought that the soon to be 37 year old Los Angeles Dodgers reliever could retire once the season was over.

Price himself confirmed those suspicions. While he did not say this was definitely his last year, he stated that it depended upon his children. If they want him home, then he will hang up the cleats. Otherwise, he may come back for one more year.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher David Price had solid career

There was a sense that Price was a bit of a disappointment in his career. However, this may be a reflection of the contract he received in Boston and how he never quite lived up to those expectations. But that does not take away from what he had accomplished before.

Price may not be a Hall of Famer, but he had a solid career. He has posted a 155-82 record to this point, along with a 3.33 ERA and a 1.164 WHiP over his 2123 innings, striking out 2063 batters with 557 walks. He was a five time All Star and the 2012 AL Cy Young award winner, a two time ERA champion, and won a World Series ring with the Red Sox in 2018.

His days as a solid piece of the rotation are over now. He is toiling in middle relief for the Dodgers, an afterthought for the rotation despite their injuries. It is, in a way, a fitting way for Price to leave the game, allowing someone who never seemed comfortable in the spotlight to fade away should this be his final season.

David Price may hang up his cleats after the 2022 season. It all depends on whether or not his kids want the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher home all the time.
