The Arizona Diamondbacks have an impressive wave of outfield prospects ready to make their mark at the major league level. With Daulton Varsho having begun to establish himself in center, Alek Thomas performing well thus far, and the eventual arrival of Corbin Carroll, the Diamondbacks could have a portion of their future core in place soon.

This also leaves the Diamondbacks with another problem. They have solid outfield depth as it is, with the likes of David Peralta and Jordan Luplow, amongst other options. But this logjam of outfielders could lead to an opportunity at the trade deadline.

Arizona Diamondbacks reportedly looking to move outfield surplus

It is also an opportunity that the Diamondbacks realize. As Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported, general manager Mike Hazen is open to discussing his outfield depth in trade talks over the coming weeks.

Peralta would seemingly be the most likely of the Diamondbacks outfielders to be traded. He is in his final season before free agency, and while he has been adamant that he wants to remain with the only organization he has ever known, he is also aware of the reality of the situation. As he is turning 35 years old, and the Diamondbacks have that young core coming in, he does not appear to have a role going forward.

At the same time, Peralta may also get the best return of their outfield options. He has produced a respectable 121 OPS+ with 11 homers and 16 doubles in his 259 plate appearances entering Friday. Although he is somewhat limited defensively, having only appeared in left since the start of the 2019 campaign, he is a former Gold Glove winner as well, which will only improve his trade value.

As for the rest of the Diamondbacks outfielders that could be on the trade block, none of the others are likely to generate much of a return. Pavin Smith could have been an interesting buy low candidate, but his broken wrist has essentially ended any speculation on that front.
