Pittsburgh Pirates trade rumors: Bryan Reynolds likely not going anywhere
Bryan Reynolds has been in the middle of MLB trade rumors for months, but it seems that, once again, the highly coveted Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder is not going anywhere at the 2022 MLB trade deadline.
Pittsburgh Pirates rumors: Bryan Reynolds is “unlikely” to be traded in 2022
According to an article from Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic (subscription required), the Pittsburgh Pirates “already have rebuffed tempting offers” for both Reynolds and closer David Bednar, both of whom can be key pieces of the near future in Pittsburgh as well as valuable trade chips. Bednar is not scheduled to be a free agent until the 2027 season while Reynolds will reach free agency in 2026.
Biertempfel mentions in his article that the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres have long had interest in Reynolds and “continue to scout him.” However, whether those are the teams that the Pirates have rebuffed is not clear.
The author also states that it appears unlikely that either Reynolds or Bednar will be traded this season. This follows an article in The New York Post from MLB insider Jon Heyman that says the Pirates are “unlikely” to trade Reynolds, who was an All-Star last season.
Both of those notes are good news for Pirates fans, who have started to see a course for the future with the contract extension for Ke’Bryan Hayes and the debut of Oneil Cruz this season. Having Reynolds and Bednar as a part of the team past the trade deadline indicates that Pittsburgh is indeed serious about getting back into postseason contention.
Heading into Monday’s action, the 27-year-old Reynolds is slashing .261/.343/.465 with 15 home runs and 32 RBI. He has also been heating up over the last seven games, posting a .389/.542/.556 slash line.
While it’s very likely that Reynolds will continue to be in the eye of the MLB trade rumor hurricane until August 2 passes, expect Reynolds to be wearing a Pirates uniform for the rest of the season and beyond.
