The Colorado Rockies made the inane decision not to trade anyone at the deadline last year. They seem determined not to make that mistake again.

According to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, the Rockies are actually shopping a pair of their pitchers. Both Chad Kuhl and Alex Colome are reportedly on the trade block as the Rockies are looking to add to their system. It is interesting to note that Daniel Bard, an impending free agent himself, is not included as the Rockies are hoping to extend him before the end of the season.

Colorado Rockies may be learning from past mistakes

Kuhl is an interesting trade candidate. He is in the midst of a career best season despite being in Colorado, having posted a 4.02 ERA and a 1.351 WHiP in his 87.1 innings entering Tuesday. While his ground ball and strikeout rates have declined, Kuhl has managed to avoid the barrel of the bat, limiting any damage against him.

Colome was the type of pitcher that made sense for the Rockies in the offseason. Bard had been shaky at times and Colome’s closing experience made him a perfect handcuff in case those struggles continued. He has been solid to this point, posting a 2.73 ERA and a 1.394 WHiP in his 33 innings, notching four saves as needed. His track record and respectable results this year would make him a viable trade target.

But these are the Rockies. Logic does not always apply, as was the case last season when they held on to Trevor Story and Jon Gray. Story had even made it clear he wanted to leave and would not re-sign, but the Rockies held on to him anyway.
