Luis Castillo trade rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers making push
If the Cincinnati Reds end up trading Luis Castillo, look for the Los Angeles Dodgers to make a major push for his services.
Those talks have already begun. According to Jon Morosi, the Dodgers have already had preliminary conversations with the Reds regarding Castillo.
Los Angeles Dodgers expectedly showing interest in Luis Castillo
The Dodgers are not going to be alone in their pursuit of the Reds ace. He has posted a stellar 2.92 ERA and a 1.099 WHiP in his 71 innings, striking out 74 batters with 23 walks. Add in his additional year of team control and even fringe contenders this year would be interested in bringing him on board.
However, the Dodgers have an advantage over most other interested teams. Not only do they have owners willing to spend anything it takes to get a championship, but they also have one of the better farm systems in the game.
That could be the deciding factor amongst any possible suitors. The Dodgers have six players in the most recent top 100 prospect list on MLB.com, an impressive showing for a team that is a perennial contender. Their excellent farm system will allow them to not only reload in cost effective ways with their prospects, but to add the pieces they need for a championship.
Such moves could include Castillo. The Dodgers rotation is a bit of a question mark due to injuries and the possibility that these arms will wear down as they far exceed their previous career bests in innings. The Reds starter will be costly, but he could be exactly what the Dodgers need to return to the World Series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly showing interest in Luis Castillo. While they will have competition, they have the prospects for such a deal.
