It is not a surprise that virtually every contender will be calling the Cincinnati Reds about Brandon Drury. However, a pair of teams may be the frontrunners for his services.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Dodgers and Giants have shown a great deal of interest in Drury’s services. As both teams value versatility, and Drury can play anywhere around the infield and both corner outfield positions, such interest makes sense.

Cincinnati Reds have several suitors for Brandon Drury

Drury has gone from being a solid bench option to having a breakout season. He has posted a career best .279/.338/.535 batting line in his 325 plate appearances entering Thursday, hitting 18 homers and 18 doubles. He has finally built upon the promise he showed in his first two seasons in Arizona.

Such interest makes sense for the Dodgers. Chris Taylor is injured, and while he is expected back before the trade deadline, has not had a great year. Max Muncy is likewise struggling, drawing walks but not looking like the player he was before his injury last season. Drury would provide a perfect fallback option while allowing Gavin Lux to continue to see time in left should Taylor’s struggles also continue.

The Giants are a different story. While Drury fits their needs, and would be a perfect super utility option should their infielder get healthy, there is no guarantee that the Giants are buyers at the deadline. They are a game back in the Wild Card chase but are also just three games over .500 and have a 7-13 record over their last 20 games. A surge would put the Giants solidly into the playoff picture, but their path could be determined in the next week or two.

The Dodgers and Giants are not the only teams that are going to be interested in Drury’s services. The Reds are certainly going to be receiving plenty of calls for him over the next few days and weeks. However, at this point, those teams are considered the frontrunners to bring him on board.
