The Miami Marlins already have several impressive young starters in the majors. The next in line is about to make his debut.

Max Meyer is set to make his major league debut as he has received that long awaited call. According to Craig Mish, that debut will come on Saturday against the Phillies.

Max Meyer continues meteoric rise with Miami Marlins

It is the culmination of what has been a rapid ascent through the ranks for Meyer. The third overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft began his professional career in Double-A in 2021, showing his potential to dominate as he earned a brief trial at Triple-A at the end of the season.

That dominance continued in Triple-A this year. Despite missing a month on the Injured List, he posted a strong 3.72 ERA and a 1.000 WHiP over his 58 innings, striking out 65 batters with 19 walks. His command is going to be the biggest key in his development, as he has the stuff to dominate, but has to harness it.

The Marlins certainly have confidence in their prospect. He is being thrown directly into the fire with his start against the Phillies. While the Marlins are 43-45, they are just three games out in the hunt for the final Wild Card spot with the Phillies being one of the teams ahead in the standings. It would be a difficult assignment for any player making their major league debut.

But the Marlins have been aggressive with Meyer throughout his career. They have challenged him every step of the way, and he has responded. They have no reason to expect otherwise when he takes the mound on Saturday against a division rival and a team ahead of them in the standings. Those challenges will continue as he faces off against the Phillies on Saturday.

The Miami Marlins are throwing Max Meyer right into the fire. Considering how Meyer has handled challenges thus far, that decision may not burn them.
