According to one MLB insider, the New York Yankees will be one of the teams exploring what it will take to acquire Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Nationals.

New York Yankees trade rumors: Yankees will “look into a trade” for Juan Soto

In an article for The New York Post, MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that the New York Yankees will indeed explore what it will take for the franchise to make a swap with the Washington Nationals and send Juan Soto to the Bronx. Heyman also details what it could potentially take for New York to land Soto, saying, “Early unconfirmed speculation is that the Nats would request a team’s top four prospects and/or young major leaguers and perhaps a willingness to take Patrick Corbin’s bloated contract.”

Corbin is making $23 million this season and is scheduled to make $24 million next season and a whopping $35 million in 2024. This season, Corbin has a 5.87 ERA/4.64 FIP/1.696 WHIP in 19 starts covering 99.2 innings.

That would be quite a price tag for the Yankees, but it could conceivably worth it to acquire the 23-year-old Soto, who entered Saturday with an OPS+ of 160 this season and a slash line of .250/.406/.490.

Over the weekend, it was reported that the two-time All-Star rejected a 15-year, $440 million offer from the Nationals. With that rejection, Soto’s time with the Nationals could well be winding down. However, Heyman warns that a deal with the Yankees or any other team might not happen before the August 2 MLB trade deadline because of all of the intricacies that would be needed in making a deal happen that quickly. Additionally, would New York or any other team want to deal off that many prospects or MLB players knowing they are pushing for a deep run in the postseason?

Soto is not scheduled to become a free agent until the 2025 season, so the Yankees and other teams (who will include the New York Mets, according to Heyman) will have time to work on a package in the offseason if something miraculous isn’t put together by August 2’s deadline.

The New York Yankees are looking into what it might take to land Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals. With several deep-pocketed teams likely interested, will the Yankees be able to put together a package enticing enough to bring Soto to the Bronx?
