When last we had news about Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak stated that while the catcher’s knee was getting better, he was not ready to begin baseball activities. It certainly seemed as though Molina’s knee was a lot better on Saturday.
In theory, Molina was rehabbing at home in Puerto Rico, something that was approved due to his stature within the organization and his Hall of Fame career. In reality, Molina is getting ejected from Puerto Rican basketball games and kicking the ball across the court.

The Cardinals can take one positive from this clip. At least Molina’s knee seems to be okay. He was not moving around with a limp from what could be seen in that video, and his knee held up when he kicked the basketball. It would have been a disaster had he aggravated his injury.
But this also leads to the question of what is going on with Molina. He may well be on the verge of getting ready for baseball activities, but the Cardinals do not seem to have an answer for that timeline. Showing up at a basketball game and having that sort of moment does not help that perception.
Molina is a Cardinals legend and certainly deserves to determine his own timeline. His desire to rehab at his home is understandable as well and is something that the team was willing to let happen. However, they need to be asking questions about what happened at this game and why he was kicking a basketball.
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is on the Injured List due to knee soreness. That did not stop his being ejected from a Puerto Rican basketball game.
