We are about to see how good Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is at recruiting players.

The World Baseball Classic is back and players are beginning to sign up. Trout has been amongst the first of those, as he is not only joining Team USA, but will be the team captain. This means that it is time to put on the charm and start recruiting.

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout to get on the recruiting trail

This should not be too hard of a sell. Getting a chance to play with one of the greatest players in baseball when he is specifically inviting you is a compliment that few would dream of. It would be difficult to turn down someone such as Mike Trout if he asks. Unless it involves his fantasy league and the possibility of being slapped by Tommy Pham…

Recruiting for the World Baseball Classic could also pay off down the line. Trout needs help with the Angels, especially as the team is somehow managing to waste a pair of generational talents. Perhaps this experience in helping to put together the Team USA roster will give him a boost to recruit with the Angels as well. That team needs all the help it can get.

Team USA will have plenty of competition in the Classic. Japan, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and South Korea are going to be difficult opponents. The Cuban team is always dangerous. Trout is going to have his work cut out for him as he helps build the team.

But this is the type of challenge he should embrace. He can try to build a team with the players that he feels comfortable with, potentially leading to some of those players coming to help in Los Angeles. If nothing else, the WBC may be his best chance at winning anything since that is not going to happen with the Angels any time soon.

Next. Angels are a running joke. dark

Mike Trout is going to be the captain of Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Maybe the Los Angeles Angels outfielder will finally win something.
