Los Angeles Dodgers looking to make MLB history
The Los Angeles Dodgers have not been any stranger to success over the past few years. They have been a playoff team since 2013, winning the division in all but one of those years. Although they only have one championship to show for that run, the Dodgers have established that they will be a legitimate contender for years to come.
Their ability to both score and prevent runs has been a major part of that success. The Dodgers entered the All Star Break having scored 462 runs while allowing just 293 runs against, both of which are the best in the National League.
Los Angeles Dodgers on path to MLB history
The Dodgers are certainly familiar with leading the league in both of those areas. They have led the NL in runs scored while allowing the fewest runs over the past four years as well. As Matt Eddy from Baseball America pointed out, if the Dodgers do so again this year, it will be the first time in MLB history that a team has done so for five consecutive seasons.
It is easy to understand why the Dodgers would have that much success. Their front office remains at the forefront when it comes to analytics, an advantage that they hold over most of the league. Add in an ownership group that will spend at the top of the market to win as much as possible, and one can see why the Dodgers are in the midst of such an impressive run.
And it could be a historic run. Considering some of the truly impressive teams in major league history, and the various dynasties that have existed, the fact that no other team has gotten to five consecutive years leading those categories is surprising. The Dodgers are now half a season away from doing exactly that.
The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the National League in runs scored and have allowed the fewest runs against. They could make history if that continues.
