The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking for a left handed hitting outfielder. That was one of their targets in the offseason, with the team rumored to be interested in Michael Conforto before news of his shoulder injury broke. Toronto moved on quickly, acquiring Raimel Tapia to potentially fill that void.

As Conforto eventually required surgery on his injured shoulder, it is not a surprise that he remains available in free agency. At the same time, now that the 2022 MLB Draft has passed, and he is no longer tied to draft pick compensation, it is not a surprise that teams may start to rekindle any contract discussions they may have had earlier.

Connecting the dots on Toronto Blue Jays interest in Michael Conforto

According to Scott Boras, that is the case. He claimed that he received four phone calls about Conforto, including some “very good teams.” While he did not specify which teams when pressed, he said that three of the four are in the United States.

Outside the US could mean that a team from South Korea or Japan had called regarding Conforto. However, it is highly unlikely that Boras would be bragging about that call if it was the case. This leaves the Blue Jays as a likely suitor even if Boras is trying to play coy.

The Blue Jays do make sense. They are still expected to pursue a left handed hitting outfielder as Tapia has continued to be a subpar hitter. In the event that Conforto is able to return in September as Boras is saying, he could make a difference in a lineup.

But it is important to remember that this is Scott Boras we are talking about. He said that Conforto was perfectly fine only for the outfielder to undergo surgery shortly thereafter. Anything he says has to be regarded with a major degree of skepticism.

Next. Hoping for new manager energy spark. dark

Scott Boras did not say that the Toronto Blue Jays are pursuing Michael Conforto, but it is easy to connect the dots. It just may not be a pretty picture.
